Hallstatt, hidden in the Austrian Alps - When I planned my trip to Austria, even for a moment occurred to me to visit this place. It was of those pleasant surprises that sometimes occur and found by chance. It happened to me and I told you in Luxembourg, a city I did not expect the charm that I offered. More than the town itself, which is beautiful, typical alpine (but I saw so many), the landscapes that surround them. Hallstatt and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997. But how do you get to this hidden village? The best way is to travel by train. The train ride is mainly from Salzburg and from Vienna. The trip is beautiful. You can not stop looking out the window when we're slowly introducing among the majestic peaks of the Alps. Waterfalls and cascades we leave behind the mighty rivers, the green of its rugged mountains and the occasional bridge where we would stop for a moment only to cross train and breathe deeply of the air coming down from the summits.
And so we come to the Salzkammergut, the region whose capital is Salzburg, western Austria. and there, surrounding this small but beautiful town, lies the Dachstein massif with a height of over three thousand meters.
The town is like a small maze of narrow streets, stairways that are lost in the flirty little houses full of flowers on their balconies. Among the streets, we occasionally the odd square, and finally, we reached the main, the Marktplatz, noted for its central fountain and especially their facades covered with vines. Nothing like stopping at the square, as if time were not with us, sit in one of the terraces of the restaurants overlooking the lake, and enjoy the delicious cuisine here in Austria, with his good pitcher of beer.
And if smart is the main church of the city that dominates the square, also lean Catholic Church is the other, a little outside in the middle of what looks like a thick forest: the Pfarrkirche, where a creepy ossuary that some like to visit.
We can end the visit to Hallstatt approaching the shore. Taking the ferry and getting those wonderful photos we always bring to mind memories of the place of story. From the lake to get pictures of homes that are only accessible by boat and see reflected in its clear waters the silhouettes of the people and the mountains behind them.
And so lost in those extraordinary images, we can think about the important history that surrounds the town, not in vain, Hallstatt is considered as the place flourished and expanded the Iron Age. Many of these sites there are footprints all over the field, and therefore, the museum is so important prehistoric. Also important was Hallastatt for its salt trade, and which they say is here's oldest salt mine in the world with more than 3,000 years old.
